Calm before the storm...

4 trains; very odd joining in a Good Friday afternoon service on the 'myCofE' app in a carriage! Then picked up by the owner of the sailing school and delivered to the boat by Range Rover! Skipper was checking boat over when I hauled all my luggage up and in.

Well, here's a first view below of 'Wheal Go' on her mooring in Premier Marina, Falmouth. Home for the next 6 weeks! You can see my berth on the port side of the fore cabin - I'll be sharing; we're divided by a canvas curtain! Still there's much more space, plenty headroom and a good bed - luxury for sailors. Forecabin might not be so comfy when we're headed in to the NE winds up the N Sea that have dominant recently. But I can savour the stillness this evening with the whole 46ft to myself! Tomorrow will be a different story, through the day I'll renew my first aid and the the crew are due to embark at 4.00pm.

I read a whole series of Alexander Kent books about the sea adventures and naval exploits of the fictional Admiral Bolitho out of Falmouth at the time of Nelson. So I'm topping my voyage in my favourite Falmouth real ale tavern waiting to be press ganged. I discovered 'The Star & Garter' with my wife and lads when visiting the sailing school last summer. On a rise, at the top of High Street it commands great views over the whole harbour. My wife will be pleased that I've got locally sourced Crab Cakes on a bed of crispy leafed salad with a drizzle of sweet chilli glaze! Hardly man food! Bolitho might at least be more at home with the local real ales on offer. Still, it's a great friendly tavern and home to the town band so I'll see if I can tail the voyage here too.

I'm looking at a huge mast dwarfing the ships across the harbour; 6 or 7 pairs of spreaders. The mast must be 4 or 5x taller than on my boat, and I thought at 46ft 'Wheal Go' was big. I'll see if I can find out who she is?

Well, this is not quite the manner of Good Friday to which I've been accustomed with 25 years a vicar! Not a Hot Cross Bun in sight! I'd best tuck in to my crispy lettuce, relish the moment and appreciate the calm.
