Day 13: Peterhead

In the laundry, hope I've picked the right programme at 30 C; apparently my long johns are delicates! In a campsite overlooking Peterhead marina.

Arrived Peterhead at 0750 after a good 150 nm sail from Lindisfarne. N Easterlies took longer to veer than hoped so a spell of motoring past St.Andrew's and Dundee until 0300 when Jill and I came on watch. Wind had veered to E so it was time to sail again. Moderate sea state and F4 winds meant good solid plain sailing although it was chilling despite all the layers. Early hours past Montrose and then Aberdeen (with thanks to Paul & Kay and Mike & Felicity and Heather for sponsoring the ports respectively, and helping me support the Climate Justice Fund).

I'm now watching the machine go round and round washing all the layers. It's taking a long time for just a few undies!

So, what do I wear? Last night my kit comprised of a Henri Lloyd base layer, a Gill micro fleece, a Musto Evolution heavy fleece, a Musto Snugs jacket, (legs were 3 x long johns) topped by my Henri Lloyd ocean sallopettes and coat with Musto windstopper hat and a pair of gortex ski gloves. Footwear of thin and thick socks in a pair of sailing boots. A bit over the top on brands there, but it works at night, and you can't exactly say my vicar's robes are over the top branding or the height of fashion!

Finally, not forgetting the life jacket by Spinlock which in addition to normal whistle, incorporates a line cutter and pylon light, my PLB (cf.blog in prep week), bits of string and a multitool. The coat has a spare whistle, more string and an Icom buoyant VHF in the sleeve radio pocket. Please take this as descriptive of sailing kit rather than boasting; it's all been gleaned from mentors who have been in those situations of need. As for me it is only the string I have so far used, to hoist the upside down triangular motor sailing day shape and for the anchor light!
